Community Rugby

Grasshoppers RFC continually builds and develops our community links and involvement and we are committed to various school based projects.

We host school rugby festivals and provide coaching sessions across the London Borough of Hounslow in partnership with the RFU RDOs and CRCs and the Young Leaders programme. We have close links with two School Sports Partnership teams in Hounslow and in 2012/2013 we provided over 360 hours of coaching to 1,743 youngsters, including nearly 900 girls and 763 from minority groups. Grasshoppers provide the coaches for the London Borough of Hounslow TAG and Girls teams representing the borough in the Mini and London Youth Games.

During the 2014/2015 season, we joined the Hounslow Rugby Development Group, which is looking at the legacy that the Rugby World Cup 2015 will bring. Funding has been granted for delivery in four main areas.

- Women and girls growth

- Borough Tag Festivals

- The Gamechanger project

- Wheelchair Rugby

During the 2013/2014 season, we ran coaching sessions in 9 Primary Schools which culminated in a Primary School tournament in November 2013. We also have active links with 10 of Hounslow’s 11 secondary schools and are hosted Senior School Competitions through September 2013 – February 2014.

From May 2014, Grasshoppers partnered up with St Anselm's Catholic Primary School, to help the year 5 and 6 children develop their skills in the game. Not only did they benefit from the use of the facilities at Grasshoppers but the children also had access to specialist rugby coaches for over an hour on a weekly basis. St Anselm’s Catholic Primary School and Grasshoppers RFC are committed to working in partnership to ensure all upper Key Stage 2 pupils have access to high quality rugby coaching and training.

In September and October 2014, Grasshoppers ran weekly coaching in St Anslems Catholic School, Grange Primary School and Clifton Primary School.

We are now coaching in two special needs schools in Hounslow and, in conjunction with the RFU Community Team, hosted a festival in May 2013 for special needs schools from Hounslow and the neighboroughing boroughs. Our aim is to partner secondary schools with special needs with rugby as the theme and we are currently in discussions with the Borough Sports Development Team to make a viable proposition of linking volunteering with special needs schools coaching.

We are committed to developing girl’s rugby in the Borough and across Middlesex and so we actively support other local rugby clubs in setting up and establishing their girls sections.

We are one of Access Sports partners whose main aim is to make sport accessible for all.
