Four Awards See Grasshoppers Jump for Joy
RECEIVING RECOGNITION:
Gary Cunnigham with Middlesex RFU president Paul Astbury
GRASSHOPPERS scooped four awards at the Middlesex County RFU President's Sevens Awards and Volunteer Appreciation event.
The Osterley-based rugby club received recognition in two categories – for work in the community and in recruiting and developing volunteer referees – in the recent ceremony at London Welsh.
Club community liaison officer John Edwards collected two – the Middlesex President's Sevens Award for Community and Social Inclusion, and a personal recognition reward from the County RFU for his tireless efforts in developing rugby in the community.
Coach and fixture secretary Tom Barber also received a special recognition award, while junior chairman and referee co-ordinator Gary Cunningham bagged the Middlesex President's Sevens award for Developing Referees.
Their gongs will be on display in the club's newly-refurbished club-house – and Grasshoppers will be looking to add more silverware when their new season kicks off at Hammersmith & Fulham on September 11.
A club open day has been organised to mark their first home game the following Saturday against Imperial Medics, where netball will be on display as well as rugby.
Before that, Gs have a number of pre-season games lined up, starting with hosting their Pre-Season Cup at MacFarlane Lane tomorrow (Saturday), which will also feature the likes of Fulham, Teddington and West London.
