2009/10 Season NEWS

Staines Festival 18.04.10

Pool 2 saw the G’s drawn against old friends & some new opponents in the shape of London Welsh 2, Barnes & Bracknell.

The first game against Barnes was a very evenly matched & open game, with both sides creating lots of scoring opportunities, Grasshoppers running out eventual winners by 4 tries to 3.

Game 2 against London Welsh proved to be a little more challenging. The team demonstrated they can score tries, with some fine continuity in the attack to work the ball quickly up to the Welsh try line, scoring 4 tries, however they also showed that they need to maintain that same hard work in the defense , conceding 4, final score 4-4.

With a clash of shirts in Game 3 against Bracknell B’s, the G’s sported unfamiliar black bibs, but didn’t let that stand in their way as they went on a rout, scoring 6 tries and more importantly increasing their work rate in defense and conceding only 4.

With 2 wins secured, G’s topped the pool & were drawn against London Welsh 1 for the semi-final.

Welsh have shown their “pedigree” in previous games against the G’s this season and this game proved to be no exception, with Welsh running out eventual winners 7-2.

Although there were some brilliant individual performances, notably Avery in scoring & defending, this was a team effort, ably led by Joshua D as captain on the day.

Well done to Aidan, Charlotte, Marco, Joshua D, Avery, Sasha, Piers, Eamon, Callan & Dylan.

I would also like to say thanks to all the family & friends who gave their vocal support from the touchline.

Grasshoppers B Festival

Congratulations to the Under 7’s team who performed exceptionally well at their first ever festival. In difficult weather conditions they remained unbeaten throughout the festival. Unfortunately the Under 7’s narrowly missed out a final appearance on try differential. The key group match was against Teddington who scored with their last play of the game to tie the score at 6-6. The team went on to secure the 3rd position trophy with a 5-2 win over Finchley.

The team was well captained by Cormac who led by example and was our leading try scorer. Other try scorers included Avery, Aidan, Joshua and Dylan although all squad members should be congratulated on a great overall team performance.
