Match Report: Grasshoppers v Chiswick

Seniors: First XV: 25th August 2017

Grasshoppers 31 19 Chiswick
Grasshoppers welcomed their friends from Chiswick to two preseason trial games for the first/second and third/fourth squads over four twenty-minute sessions, hoping to continue their steady progress to the first league game on 9th September. The first session for the first/second squad was pretty even with no scores but plenty of good running rugby from both sides. From Gs viewpoint the highlights came from stand-off, Tom OHalloran who led the line well. The second session was equally even but with Gs running out winners 14-7 thanks to tries from centre Louis Brown and full-back, Gideon Green with Mark Cunningham adding the conversions. Gs continued their control in the third session with some excellent running rugby matched though by their dogged defence. This saw two tries from number eight, James Kent and winger, George Stanton with a conversion added by Mark Cunningham to being the score to 26-7. The fourth session was looking like Chiswick would take the game when they started to secure some excellent possession and move it well. This bore two tries and a conversion to bring the score to 26-19 with Chiswick looking like the team who were going to take the game but back came Gs who rounded off a brilliant evening with a try from full-back Gideon Green to take the game 31-19. The Gs Coaches were pleased with the overall performance but continued to be impressed with props, Andre James and Josh Harper who have developed well along with backs Tom OHalloran and Gideon Green. Gs also came out on top in the third and fourth squad session 27-17 with two tries from Andy McGill and one each from Aaron Sheehan, Phil Butler & Matt Rees and one conversion from Oscar Goodenough. Overall an excellent evening of rugby competed in good spirit with both Clubs benefiting. Next week 2nd September Gs welcome Teddington to MacFarlane Lane 3pm kick off.
