A COMBINATION OF YOUTH AND EXPERIENCE SET TO DRIVE HOPPERS SUCCESS!
Our new overseas players
Preparations for the coming season have been under way for some time as they prepare to hit the ground running adding experience to their young and talented squad.
Director of Rugby, Matt Gilmore said "I'm confident that we have in place some great international experience to bring success to Grasshoppers for the coming 2011/12 season, the international experience comes from New Zealander, Russell Fielding, who has played at National Level 2, Corne Du Rand who was a Bulls under 21 trialist and has also played National Level 2 and to complete the trio Jo Ravono who has played for Fiji and the British Army". Matt went onto say "This experience combined with the brilliant array of home grown talent through our Junior ranks will I'm sure help us improve for this coming season".
Club Coach, Mike Reilly added "I can't wait to get them all together for pre-season training which starts at 7.30pm on Thursday 7th July when we can start the hard work for what I expect to be a great season with everyone getting behind new skipper and vice skipper, Tom Woodhouse and Henry Montgomery-Smith".
Coaching Appointments - Corne Du Rand & Zoran Higgins
I am delighted to confirm Corne Du Rand has been appointed 1st xv Forwards Player Coach for the coming season.
Corne brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience, having been a trialist with the Blue Bulls in his native South Africa and playing National League rugby here in the UK with Camberley, Staines and Ealing. Corne joins us from Ealing where he has been Head Coach for the past two seasons of the very successful 2nd xv.
I am delighted to announce that Zoran Higgins will also be joining the Coaching team for the coming season.
Due to continued school committments as Head of Rugby at Hampton School Zoran will be used on a more adhoc basis and whilst his intention is to also continue playing, the club will greatly benefit from his coaching skills. Zoran currently holds the RFU level 3 coaching badge.
I am delighted the club has been able to recruit and strengthen our coaching team with the appointments of Corne and Zoran and I am sure you will join me in welcoming both Corne and Zoran to our coaching ranks and look forward to seeing a mix of creativity and hard work that will reap rewards for the club in the coming season.

Pre-season tour to Birmingham - Saturday 3rd September
Our pre-season tour to Bimingham has been confirmed and we will be taking 40 players to play Kidderminster. Cost £50 which includes cost of hotel stay and Sunday lunch back at the club. The club will cover the costs of the coach.
